David Knezevic from small-town Croatia joins the Army, hoping his girlfriend and his abusive father will come to respect him. On graduation day, his hopes are crushed once he realizes everyone has left with their families - what he thought was his didn't even bother to show up. Disappointed with life, he volunteers to serve in Kabul, training Afghani police and troops. When his best friend (and superior officer) makes him share his Fortress of Solitude with a young French soldier whose smile could melt an iceberg, his life turns upside-down.
